Easily Disable Messenger

Go into: C:/Program Files/Messenger. Rename the Messenger folder to "MessengerOFF".
Remove Messenger

· Go to Start/Run, and type: "rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection BLC.Remove 128

%SystemRoot%\INF\msmsgs.inf"

Turn Off Autoplay for Program CDs

How can you stop Windows XP from launching program CDs?
· Click Start, click Run, type GPEDIT.MSC to open Group Policy in the Microsoft
Management Console.

· Double-click Computer Configuration, double-click Administrative templates,
double-click System, and then click Turn off autoplay.

· The instructions on your screen describe how to configure this setting. Click
Properties to display the setting dialog.

· Click Enabled, and choose CD-ROM drives, then click OK, to stop CD autoplay.
This setting does not prevent Autoplay for music CDs.

Change Drive Letters in Windows XP

When you add drives to your computer, such as an extra hard drive, a CD drive, or a
storage device that corresponds to a drive, Windows automatically assigns letters to the
drives. However, this assignment might not suit your system; for example, you might have
mapped a network drive to the same letter that Windows assigns to a new drive. When you
want to change drive letters, follow these steps:

· Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

· Under Computer Management, click Disk Management. In the right pane, you'll see
your drives listed. CD-ROM drives are listed at the bottom of the pane.

· Right-click the drive or device you want to change, and then click Change Drive
Letter and Paths.

· Click Change, click Assign the following drive letter, click the drive letter you
want to assign, and then click OK.

Do Not Highlight Newly Installed Programs

Tired of that annoying little window that pops up to tell you that new software is
installed? If it gets in the way when you're logging off, turn it off completely. To do
this:

· Click Start, right-click at the top of the Start menu where your name is displayed,
and then click Properties.

· In the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, on the Start Menu tab, click
Customize.

· Click the Advanced tab, and then clear the Highlight newly installed programs check
box.

· Click OK, and then click OK again

Change the Default Opening Folder in Windows Explorer

By default, Windows Explorer opens showing the My Documents folder. To change the
default setting so that all top-level drives and folders are shown, follow these steps:

· Click Start > Programs > Accessories, then right-click Windows Explorer, and click
Properties.

· Under Target field, which reads %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe, add to make the line
read:

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e, /select, C:\

Close Multiple Windows

If you just opened a number of separate, related windows (a folder inside a folder,
and so on), there's an easier way to close them all than one-at-a-time:
· Hold down the shift-key as you click the X caption button in the upper-right corner
of the last window opened. Doing so closes that window and all windows that came before it

4) My volume icon is not showing in taskbar, Yet It's Enable From Control Panel > Sound And devices

Assuming that you have tried the basic steps i am directly trying with the most possible solutions. This issue most commmonly occurs because the settings are not saved. Also there might be some startup program which is diabling the Systray.exe from loading up.

Try this...
1) Re-enable the volume icon by disabling and then enabling Place volume icon in the taskbar in the Sound and Audio applet.
2) Then copy the following text which is in red into a notepad file and then save it as "fix.reg". Please make sure that there is no .txt extension after that.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"SystemTray"="SysTray.Exe"

3) Merge the file to the registry by simply double clicking on it.
4) Reboot

This should definitely work. Please reply back with the status.

Cheers

:shared frm internet (bond)

5)Whenever i try d'loading stuff from the net, the download starts and the comp just restarts. due to dis i have to install d'load managers wich i hate. help needed anyone. i have win xp!

If the computer just restarts itself, it cud possibly be an application crash..
check the Dr.watson log for details..
START-RUN- drwtsn32.
check the path for the log here... open the log and check which application is causing the crash.
turn of automatic reboot, cos you wud miss it if there is a BSOD being generated.

or may be u could try this one out

Go to Start>Run--Type 'services.msc', hit ENTER
Scroll down to a service called Remote Procedure Call, right click, go to properties, there will be a tab named Recover Action, change it to 'Take No Action' if it's not already selected. Your problem should be solved for the time being. Also look for all network related srvices DNS, TCP-IP and also Windows Firewall/ICS service if you're on LAN/WAN, see that all of these are set to Automatic or Manual. Reply to me with results

Xbox 360 Hard Drive

According to J. Allard the Xbox 360 guru, the decision to sell the Xbox in two configurations is pro consumer in regards to the Xbox 360 hard drive issue. It allows consumers to decide whether or not the hard drive is worth the extra cost.

Allard stated “You buy the Xbox 360 Core system, you can build up to the premium system and you won’t be left out of anything along the way,” showing that consumers have a better choice since those choosing to buy the core system can then decide if and when they would purchase the Xbox 360 hard drive.

The flexibility offered by having a choice of purchasing the Xbox 360 hard drive or adding it on at a later date is not normally associated with the consumer electronics market and shows Microsoft’s commitment to providing it’s customers a choice according to Allard.

Allard said “Consumers like choice, and it’s a very pro-consumer move on our part to say, ‘We’ve got two configurations of system that’ll be launching in Europe and if they’re not right, we have the flexibility to go and change it.”

All of the Xbox 360 games will be playable without the Xbox 360 hard drive. This promises the gamers who purchased just the core system will not be limited in the games that they play because of no Xbox 360 hard drive.

The Xbox 360 hard drive will contain pre-loaded specialized content. This content will be included in both the Xbox 360 Premium pack and the Xbox 360 hard drives that are purchased separately. The included content will include gamer content tiles which will allow gamers to personalize their Gamer Card by selecting one of the tiles to show as their icon when browsing Xbox Live.

The custom sound track lets consumers test the Xbox 360’s audio capabilities. The video included on the Xbox 360 hard drive includes a track on “The Making of Xbox 360”. This will give people some insight on how this console was made and also showing off the video capabilities. The arcade game Hexic will give you and idea of the type of arcade games that will be available on Xbox Live. Hexic is created by Alexy Pajitnov, the original creator of Tetris.

You know, one of the greatest games of all times. This game is very addictive and will keep you busy for the first two hours, before you even slip the first disk into the console. Over all the content of the Xbox 360 hard drive is to give the consumer an understanding of what the capabilities of the game system are.

Part of the decision to offer consumers a choice of hard drive or no hard drive came because Microsoft was not willing to bear the costs of the hard drive as they did in 2001 with the Xbox. They had lost $4 billion on the original Xbox console.

Since Microsoft demands that games be able to play without a hard drive there are many game developers who are unhappy. This unhappiness is related to issues with streaming and caching. Allard tried to balance that problem out by stating. “from the developer point of view you have the best tools and the commitment of the most well-resourced company in the world going worldwide with this product and saying that we want to grow the audience. So that seems like a win for developers”.

But to many industry analysts and most hard core gamers, this hard drive issue is just a promotion ploy from Microsoft. A way to say the Xbox 360 only costs $300.00 when in reality the only package worth purchasing is $400.00. This is because to do any type of online functions or to save games you need to have either a hard drive or 64 MB memory card that can be purchased for $40.00.

So if you purchase the core system you will eventually need to spend as much as or more than the Xbox 360 Premier Package. This makes the core system cost savings non existent or at the very least significantly less. Xbox 360 hard drive or no hard drive the choice is yours but in all reality there is no choice. This may be why Microsoft predicts over 50% of the first launch consoles are the Xbox 360 Premier system.

Xbox 360 Game Previews

As a game that has normally launched with Sony platforms, this new Ridge Racer is a big addition for Microsoft. While it is nothing new or unique, Ridge Racer fans are going to love playing their favorite racer in hi definition on the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 Ridge Racer 6 will have a total of about thirty tracks and no less than 130 cars (this is including eight “special machines”), these you’ll need to unlock in the game’s single player “World Xplorer” mode. Every race in this mode will be shown as a hexagon on a large, irregularly shaped map; from there you’ll be able to pick your own route thru the game as you progress.

This means you will be able to skip a large number of events if you want to, but you are discouraged from that by the presence of the unlockable items that you can access once you win all the races around the bonus icons on the map.

The game will feature new cars and tracks, the controls are based off of the recent PSP game, this is a good thing. For example, you have the same three-level boost meter, and it's possible to reverse steer into curves to spin your car around in a 360 and show off on your way through them. The game plays very well with the Xbox 360 controller with the right trigger being used to fuel your super boosts.

Standard races in Ridge Racer 6 will boast of a total of fourteen cars, but as in previous games, you will be going up against some very challenging opposition head to head on some occasions. Class 1 will be the slowest of four classes in Ridge Racer 6. The pace will be slowed considerably but there still is a good sense of speed thanks to the games 60 frames per second.

It is especially noticeable if you use the car’s nitrous system. Just like in the PSP version is highlighted by sensational slides around corners. Then at the end of the race you are treated to great replays that showed off all your great skids and slides from many different camera angles.

Other game play modes in Ridge Racer 6 will focus mainly on online competition and will include heat to head online races, as well as a global time attack mode that will let you match your best race times against players from around the world using a leader board system.

As with any other next generation game, there is a question of how the graphics will look. In the case of Ridge Racer 6 there were some minor issues. The backgrounds were not as detailed as in some racers, but this has never been a big focus point.

There are enough of the usual planes and helicopters along with some great There were some jagged edges arcross the top of the car, but with several weeks to go before launch it is fairly sure that the issue will be resolved by the time it hits the store shelves.

The Xbox 360 launch day is full of racing games. Such as Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Test Drive: Unlimited, Project Gotham Racing 3, Full Auto, and Ridge Racer 6 and they all are trying for your racing dollars. After seeing Ridge Racer we felt that it is a clear winner in the racing genre.

It has been told the game will support at least 10 players simultaneously and new content will be available via the Xbox Live Marketplace system. At this time there is no word as to if you will have to pay for the extra goods or if it will be a special bonus included with the purchase of the game. Scheduled for release in November many of the Ridge Racer 6’s features have not been finalized as of yet.

Review of Star Wars. Battlefront II for PC

Earlier the Star Wars Battlefront I for PC enabled its fans to battle through missions and settings pulled straight from the movies.

After considering the huge number of requests from their fans, LucasArts and Pandemic now presents ‘Star Wars: Battlefront II for PC’ this holiday season. In order to increase the game's playability and enjoyment, many modifications and upgrades have been made in the Star Wars Battlefront II.

Star Wars: Battlefront II chases away the old Battlefront storyline. Battlefront II is based on a first-person story which follows Darth Vader's elite 501st Legion of Storm Troopers and is inspired from various books, like Timothy Zahn's and other publications - from the start and through the rest of the movie's storyline satisfying the restless hearts of many hardcore fans.

The new Battlefront II has many new missions and online battles structured in it. Now you just don’t have to destroy and hold a power generator to win online. There is much more than that. Although the continuation in the Star Wars Battlefront II does not raze the exhilaration initiate in the first team-based game to be set in the Star Wars Universe. It contains over twenty different maps, twelve of them land based and on different planets, and eight at various space-based locations.

In engages the players constantly in a fight. The objective of that fight is the control of capture points. Players reach the ultimate goal by following various maps. Each map is laid out so that the players can easily strategize a way to achieve the objective. It gives you the full control of both the infantry figures and the war vehicles. Best of all, it provides the players with an attractive objective. It enables you to jump between piloting different types of ships, including TIE Fighters, X-Wings, and a number of other famous Star Wars vessels during the space battles.

Battlefront II also allows you to form boarding parties with your friends and use them to take down an enemy's spacecraft. Or you could simply fight dog fights as per your wish. Both the land and space-based vehicles will have a real upgraded and super fast speed and maneuverability. Moreover, it supports 16 players for PS2, 32 for X-box, and 64 for PC users for online play.

Players can choose one of two different strategies. Those players who enjoy face-to-face combat can employ a series of dogfights as a way to conquer the enemy forces. The vehicles participating in these dogfights could be star destroyers, frigates, or even smaller, flea-like fighters. The game players are free to use any combination of those vehicles that they choose An alternate strategy, one that requires a bit less fighting, involves the use of subterfuge. The player who has chosen this strategy must sneak onto an enemy craft and destroy it from the inside. Battlefront II increases the excitement of this subterfuge by creating ships that are scaled to appear very much like the real thing.

If one is very well skilled at subterfuge, one can even steal fighters. This really adds to the fun of Battlefront II. The one drawback to the game Battlefront II is the fact that it has a limited number of figure types. Players control only pilots and marines. If a fighter needs to be repaired, then the pilot has to repair it himself.

Another complaint expressed by some Battlefront II players is that all of the maps lead to similar multiplayer matches. What changes is the planet over which the battle takes place. And there are 24 different possible battles scenes, 24 different possible planets, including Mustafor, Utapau and Coruscant.

So, if a team of players, or if a single player, is very good at strategizing how to capture points, what do such individuals get as a reward. In Battlefront II the reward for gaining a certain number of points is the chance to have one player as the hero. The number of heroes is limited by the restriction of one hero per side per match. The hero is not that much more powerful than the other characters, but the enemy needs to unite if it wants to succeed at defeating the hero.

The Ultimate Blogging

While blogging has only reached prominence in the last few years, it was actually invented by the ancient Romans who built a majestic blog in 200 BC from marble, granite and links they stole from the Greeks.

"Blog" itself is short for "weblog," which is short for "we blog because we weren't very popular in high school and we're trying to gain respect and admiration without actually having to be around people."

Creating your own blog is about as easy as creating your own urine, and you're about as likely to find someone else interested in it. One popular technique for building readership is to send e-mail to more well-trafficked blogs offering to exchange links with them. One popular response from those blogs is to laugh derisively and hit the Delete button.

Another approach for advertising your blog is to mention it as much as possible in conversation; you'd be surprised how many people are fascinated to hear you have a blog and want to know more, especially if you were expecting the number to be greater than zero.

However, there are many popular blogs already in existence, and if you want people to think you're cool, you're probably better off claiming you were a "guest blogger" for one of them. Your average blog has so many guest bloggers and such a crappy search feature that nobody will ever be able to prove you wrong.

As a handy guide for crafting your horrible lies, here's a list of some of the already popular blogs out there. (I'm omitting the blogs at Wired, because, hey, I have to work with these people.) Along with each blog's name, I've provided what would be the ultimate perfect blog entry for that particular blog. I'm tired of the word "blog" now.
